Welcome to George O. Barr Elementary School for the 2007-2008 school year! We take pride in making this a special place for the students of our community to learn in. We encourage you to visit our school and meet the staff. “Howdy Night is August 21, 2007 from 5 – 7:30. Silvis Schools are a great place to learn. The teachers spend a great deal of time getting to know each child to better meet their social and academic needs. Evidence of student work can be seen throughout the hallways and classrooms. Certified specialists teach the children music, art, physical education, and library. With the Illinois Learning Standards and Framework as our guide, we provide an education based on high expectations for all children. This has been shown to be the case with the ISAT scores from the 2006-07 school year. Several of our classes had 100% of the students meet and exceed the standards set by the state for the area of mathematics and reading. Congratulations to the students for their hard work! We are very proud of your accomplishments. George O. Barr Elementary School is a community. There is no one person or group who can take credit for the success of our school. The staff at Barr is energetic, hard-working and creative. They work together as a team and are constantly sharing and learning. Parents are encouraged to be actively involved and can be seen at the school, in the classrooms, in the library and in the office. The Rocket Boosters are a strong parent organization that supports the students and staff in the educational process. They stand behind all that we do and their support is invaluable. The district provides opportunities for staff development and support. Everyone works together in the best interest of the children and this spirit can be seen throughout the school. The Silvis School staff and students make you smile. George O. Barr Elementary School is much more than a school, it is a community that puts a smile on my face as I come to work every day. The children are enthusiastic and love to learn. They are full of stories about exciting things that they’ve done and their hopes for the future. My hope is that you will feel the school spirit at George O. Barr Elementary School every time that you join us. Sincerely, Michael W. Hughes |
