SILVIS SCHOOL DISTRICT #34 BOARD OF EDUCATION MEETING

The meeting was called to order at 7:04 p.m.

            Members Present:         Rossmiller, Gary Taylor, Piper, Greer, Stone, Jecks

            Members Absent:         TJ Taylor

 

Motion by Greer, second by Piper to approve the minutes of the March 10, 2008 special meeting.

            Motion carried by voice acclamation.

 

Motion by Piper, second by Jecks to approve the March expenditures.

            Ayes:    Rossmiller, Gary Taylor, Piper, Greer, Stone, Jecks

            Nays:   None

 

Communication/Recognition

 

·                    A thank you card was shared from Linda Minas for the floral arrangement sent during her hospitalization.

·                    Mr. Bergles showed the Board a recent copy of the Metro East which contained photos of Star Students, Decades Day, and Math and Science Night.

·                    Mr. Bergles informed the Board that he had received a FOIA request from Scott Reeder and had replied immediately.

·                    A list of tasks the custodians will be doing during spring break was given to the Board.

·                    An estimate from Larson’s to repair damage to the front of a bus was shared.

·                    A quote from Preferred Cable Solutions for writing lab wiring was distributed to the Board.

·                    Mr. Bergles shared information on the 1% sales tax and asked for Board input.

·                    Medicaid Administrative Outreach is being phased out by the federal government.  Mr. Bergles shared information concerning the reduction in funds.

·                    It appears the state will delay the 23rd and 24th General State Aid payments into FY09.

·                    The Board was updated on the projected fund balances in the education, transportation, IMRF/SS, and O & M funds for FY08.

·                    Information was given to the Board on replacing the large lawn tractor and installing a storage shed.

·                    Mr. Bergles is collecting information on resurfacing work on the playground and other areas and will bring more information to the Board next month.

·                    The Board was given an update on potential building sites.

 

There was no public participation.

 

Art Byczynksi, Silvis Junior High principal, was present.

 

Motion by Piper, second by Rossmiller to approve School Messenger as the parent notification system for the 2008-09 school year as presented.

            Ayes:    Rossmiller, Gary Taylor, Piper, Greer, Stone, Jecks

            Nays:   None

 

Mr. Byczynski gave a presentation on the changes to the UTHS curriculum in math and science and how this will affect Silvis Junior High.

 

Motion by Greer, second by Jecks to approve setting a hearing date for the attendance waiver for Veteran’s Day for Wednesday, April 2 at 5:00 p.m.

            Motion carried by voice acclamation.

 

Motion by Stone, second by Piper to approve amending the 2007-08 calendar to show May 30, 2008 as the last attendance day, December 11, 2007 as an emergency day due to the weather, February 6, 2008 as an emergency day due to the weather and June 2, 3, and 4, 2008 as emergency days, if needed.

            Motion carried by voice acclamation.

 

Resolution presented by: Jecks.  Motion by Piper, second by Stone to reduce-in-force/honorably dismiss personnel, employee number 583 for the 2008-2009 school term.

            Nays:   None

 

Resolution presented by: Piper.  Motion by Greer, second by Jecks to reduce-in-force/dismiss personnel, employee number 651 for the 2008-2009 school term.

            Ayes:    Rossmiller, Gary Taylor, Piper, Greer, Stone, Jecks

            Nays:   None

 

Motion by Piper, second by Rossmiller to adjourn the meeting at 8:42 p.m.
